I’ve always loved German Expressionism, and I wanted to see how I could combine the graphic/frightful nature of that tradition with the technical precision of photo-realism.
You’ll note recurring characters, such as the office worker with a bank robber’s face stocking, mr. swiffers (he always wears a santa claus hat and a mask from the show ’sleep no more’), and of course the goggled warrior. Perhaps these works constitute the profile pics of a group of post-apocalyptic friends and acquaintances. My intention was to convey a mixture of paranoia, unease, and black humor within small, graphic works. All pieces from this series are oil on canvas.
